MUCH-LOVED journalist and presenter Karen McMahon has died following a brave fight with illness.

The well-known Mijas figure began working with the Euro Weekly News many years ago on Bookworld España, before going on to present a hugely successful and popular programme on Mijas Comunicacion from 2009.

The journalist, who presented English-language programme News with Views, was also responsible for show Mijas Internacional.

Described by her colleagues as ‘happy, positive, and in love with life,’ Karen was known by all for “her magic, her desire for freedom and her courage.”

And there has been an outpouring of tributes to the keen golf player and lover of country music and dance.

Mijas Comunicacion said: “We will miss her sweetness, her permanent smile and her dedication to the programme that gave her the opportunity to address the foreign public and keep them informed.”

EWN CEO Michel Euesden said: “Karen was a big personality in the local community and her death is an enormous loss.

“Rest in peace, Karen.  You spread happiness throughout both the Spanish and English communities. You fought your battle with silence and dignity but more importantly you never lost hope. Our thoughts are with your parents.

“You will never be forgotten and we thank you for being you.”

Others wrote: “I had the immense pleasure of being interviewed by Karen. What a truly lovely lady. So sorry to hear this very sad news. Thoughts are with her parents xxx”

From everyone at the Euro Weekly News, our sympathies and thoughts go out to Karen’s parents, as well as her friends and colleagues at this difficult time.
