TRAFFIC at La Cala de Mijas remains at a standstill this evening (Friday) and is expected to do so until around 7.30pm after a lorry overturned on the A-7.
A La Cala de Mijas resident who witnessed the aftermath of the accident told Euro Weekly News that access is still cut to the town from the motorway. The driver has been taken to hospital with stomach injuries after being crushed under the vehicle.
“Cars are still unable to exit La Cala at the moment and they haven´t been able to since around 1.30pm,” the local resident said.
“We are looking at at least an hour and a half before traffic resumes,” he added.
The accident happened at around 1.30pm today at the exit to La Cala de Mijas, kilometre 201. There were around six kilometres of tailbacks by 2.45pm following the accident.
Police closes the road, bringing traffic to a standstill in the direction of Riviera del Sol. A crane was brought in to lift the lorry off the road at around 4.30pm.
The local resident told this newspaper that the driver is believed to be in his 50s.
