SPANISH robots are set to branch out into food and drink when the country’s first ever restaurant run entirely by machines opens in Madrid this year.
The opening of the robot restaurant follows similar moves in Japan, China and the US. Robots are currently used in more than 500 restaurants across the world, according to Food by Robots and Reimagine Food founder Marius Robles.
Robles said robots would have a “decisive” influence on the restaurant industry in the coming years.
The use of robots would become more widespread as the technology gets cheaper but the creative side of cooking is hard to automate, Robles added.
He was speaking at the Hospitality Innovation Planet Horeca Professional Expo.
