ARREST: Man stopped allegedly trying to smuggle his children at Spanish port

POLICE have intercepted a Moroccan man has he allegedly tried to smuggle two of his children out of Spain at Motril Port.

The 43-year-old, who is a resident of Ambers in Belgium, is said to have taken the toddlers from their home in the Netherlands without consent before attempting to cross them over to Morocco by ferry.

Members of the National Police arrested the man during a vehicle boarding check as he attempted to drive onto the Nador ferry.

After asking for identification for the four occupants of the car, they reportedly found the children, aged one and three, were on a missing person’s list.

It was also discovered there was a Dutch international arrest warrant for the man.

The children were taking into care in Granada before relatives of the children and an employee of a Dutch children’s home came to collect them and return them to the Netherlands.
