THE two-month-old baby who was taken to the Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona on Friday 4, after being allegedly mistreated by his father, has died today at 2:15pm.
The baby boy was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with a bruise on his head, a fractured arm and also give broken ribs.
Despite being in a ‘stable’ condition for days, the baby has since passed away, according to medical officials.
The two-month-old baby had been treated beforehand at the Hospital de Calella.
The Síndic de Greuges de Cataluña, Rafael Ribó, claimed last week that there was a lack of information, communication and coordination between the social and health services that were implicated in the baby’s case.
Rafael Ribó had demanded new rules to protect babies from this kind of abuse.
The Pineda del Mar town hall and the Department of Labor, Social Affairs and Families of the Generalitat have reportedly agreed to appear in an upcoming court case for the child.
An investigation has been opened by the Directorate General for Health Planning and Regulation of the Department of Health to investigate any previous assistance that the baby made of received in different medical centers in the past, including the Hospital de Calella.
According to the Spanish press, additional information surrounding the case is being gathered but has yet to be released.
