NATIONAL POLICE in Spain have arrested two men after a high-speed pursuit along the M-40 motorway in Madrid. The arrested men were travelling in a stolen vehicle, picking up a third man on their way before attempting their getaway. A police helicopter, equipped with night vision cameras, was able to follow the criminals after ground units spotted the cars skipping red lights, making illegal turns and driving without headlights. After spotting a police patrol, the driver of the vehicle accelerated hard in order to escape. During the pursuit, the fleeing car collided with another vehicle on the M-40 motorway causing their damage to their vehicle. After the collision, the three occupants fled on foot, with police officers apprehending two of the occupants almost immediately, a 38-year-old with 11 previous offences and a 32-year-old with eight convictions, according to a police report. However, one person escaped on foot. The two detainees were arrested for the separate crimes of allegedly committing vehicle theft and assault against an officer of the law.
