SPAIN’S Costa del Sol was battered through the night and morning by torrential rain and sheets of lighting that has left streets awash and homes and garages flooded. AEMET, the state’s national Met Office’s yellow and orange severe storm warnings for heavy rain and thunderstorms was dramatically upgraded at 2am this morning to a red alert for torrential rain in the Axarquia, Sol and Guadalhource areas. The highest level red alerts can see rainfall of 60 litres per square metre fall in an hour. Emergency services have not yet revealed the scale of the flooding but it is likely their 112 Andalucia emergency control centre was deluged by calls. More to follow…
