A NUMBER of bars in Benidorm could face massive fines after they held illegal street parties over the Christmas holiday period.
Authorities in Valencia will decide if fines of up to €10,000 will be given out to the establishments who were allegedly selling food and drink on the streets without the required permissions.
One Benidorm pub and three other bars – none of which have been named – have been reported for hosting events on Christmas Eve.
Police reportedly found several establishments installing speakers, stages and tents on the streets all without authorisation. Three bars complied when police ordered them to remove the installations, but one reportedly did not.
Benidorm City Council has been attempting to control the widespread practice for several years.
