British girl bitten by small shark on Spanish beach

AN 11-year-old British holidaymaker has reportedly been bitten by a shark while swimming on a Spanish beach.

Her foot was mauled and lifeguards had to stem heavy bleeding at Grao de Moncofa, near Benicassim in Castellon, Valencian Country.

Lifeguards claimed to “never have seen anything like it” and mayor, Wencesalao Alos, has been told that the injuries were probably inflicted by a small shark.

Beachgoers were advised to stay away from the area where the bite occurred.

An estimated 90 shark species inhabit the the Mediterranean Sea but attacks are extremely rare and officials stated this was the first such incident in the area for a decade.
