Airport strikes in Spain loom as last-ditch talks scheduled

THE Spanish government has scheduled more talks with airport unions to avoid the proposed 25 days of strikes.

The secretary of State Infrastructure, Transport and Living, Julio Gomez-Pomar, said after Tuesday’s (August 29) meeting that both sides are willing to reach an agreement.

He also said the state needed more time to fully respond to the union’s requests as it affects various governmental bodies.

The Secretary General of the CC OO union, Francisco Casado, said the requests that all the workers present are considered fair and “adequate.”

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday September 7 but the proposed strikes would run from September 15 to December 30.

The full list of planned strikes is as follows:

  • September: 15, 17, 22, 24 and 29
  • October; 1, 6, 11, 15, 27, 30 and 31
  • November: 3 and 5
  • December: 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30

  1. I read elsewhere that the unions will now hold a meeting with Aena and Enaire on September 7, although a breakdown in those talks would see the strikes reconvened with the first day of industrial action programmed for September 22.

    Can anyone confirm this?
