A 25-YEAR-OLD man has died during the San Juan festivities in Redondela, Galicia, after being shot by a fellow reveller on Arealonga beach.
The incident occurred just before 6am and a 43-year-old man with an existing criminal record has been arrested after a string of witnesses identified him.
It comes as a statement by the National Police revealed that the two men did not know each other, and the alleged gunman “opened fire” on the victim and a friend, who was unharmed, after they complained to him about “some small issue regarding appropriate public behaviour.”
Investigators also thanked members of the public who were quick to report the incident and others who helped locate the shooter “not far from the scene.”
Trying to escape in a taxi, he was found to be wielding a “large calibre” weapon, and remains in police custody as investigators probe the chain of events leading to the victim’s death.
