The members of the timely convened meeting
AFTER the distressing news of the death of tenants due to a fire in Grenfell Tower London, the Government of Gibraltar has reassured the public.
A meeting of all relevant parties was convened by the Chief Minister following his return from New York and he together with Minister of Housing Samantha Sacramento confirmed that the material used in Gibraltar public housing was quite different from that used at the recently renovated Grenfell Tower.
There have been fires in some of the publicly owned properties in Gibraltar but all have been contained safely and without spreading, so all parties believe that there are no likely risks in Gibraltar although as evidence is revealed from the London investigations, government will continue to consider the situation.
Mr Picardo expressed his sorrow at the tragic loss of life saying “The condolences of the people and Government of Gibraltar go to all those who have lost friends or family in this terrible tragedy.”
