What to do on International Museum Day in Malaga

MALAGA’S museums will have special offers for free on International Museum Day.

 Museo de Malaga will give guided tours of its two decades worth of collections as well as musical performances from Nostro Tempo. It will be open from 9am to 8pm.

Tours will start every 30 minutes between noon and 1pm and 6pm and 7pm.

The concert starts at 8pm, entrance is free. Make sure you don’t miss the ‘Tomb of the warrior’ in the archaeological section.

 Museo Picasso Malaga will offer free entrance as well as guided tours starting at noon, 6pm and 7pm to showcase a whole range of pieces by a plethora of artists including Lucian Freud and Francis Bacon.

CAC Malaga will also be offering guided tours from noon, 6pm and 7pm and will be open from 10am to 8pm.

Don’t miss the apocalyptic paintings by Chinese artist Jia Aili.

Centre Pompidou Malaga will be open from 9.30am to 8pm offering guided tours for its first collection, based around metamorphosis, as well as work by designer Philippe Starck which was introduced recently.

The one-hour tours will start at 12.30pm and 6.30 pm.

Museo Carmen Thyssen will have free entrances from 10am to 8pm and on Sunday (21 May) will have a performance from the Conservatorio Superior de Danza de Malaga at 12pm.

Casa Natal de Picasso explores Spanish art history with its two pieces Next to Picasso’s Aura and Recovered Art 1916-1957 as well as talks with historian Ignacio Araujo about the ballet Parade which brought Picasso, Serge Diaghilev, Erik Satie and Jean Cocteau.

Coleccion del Museo Ruso will display Russian art and provide guided tours. Open from 9.30am to 8pm.

Museo Unicaja de Artes Populares and Museo Joaquin Peinado (Ronda) will both be open from 10am to 5pm and provide guided tours for groups with more than 10 people. Tours must be pre-booked by calling 952 21 71 37 for Museo Unicaja and 952 87 15 85 for Museo Joaquin Peinado.

Museum Jorge Rando explores expressionism from 10am to 8pm whilst guided tours can be requested at the reception.

Dolmenes de Antequera opens at 9am with impressive megalithic displays including El Dolmen de Menga. Guided tours are on offer by appointment by calling 952 71 22 06/07 or e-mailing visitasdolmenesdeantequera.ccul@juntadeandalucia.es.

CAC de Velez-Malaga hosts Lito Blues Band as well as Paint your T-shirt workshops and guided tours. Tours will be available throughout the day from 10am to 2pm and 5pm to 8pm. The workshop starts at 5.30 pm and Lito Blues Band will perform at 8.30pm.
