DANCE music icon Robert Miles has died on Ibiza, the island the Swiss-born star made his home. The artist and DJ stormed onto the world music scene in 1996 with his hit song Children.
The 47-year-old is believed to have died from cancer on Tuesday May 9. Tributes have poured in from across the music world.
Boy George wrote ‘RIP Robert Miles. Very sad news’ on his Twitter feed. Radio One DJ Judge Jules wrote ‘Deeply saddened to hear about the loss of a true dance music legend.’
Raised in Italy, Miles learnt piano at an early age and was a pioneer in the mid 1990’s trance scene, which quickly made Ibiza the clubbing centre of the world.
His single Children mesmerised viewers on Top of the Pops 21 years ago. It was number one in 12 countries and spawned countless covers.
In his later years Miles was a renowned producer who set up his own independent record label and broadcast an alternative radio station from Ibiza.
