Police discover 108 kilos of cocaine on ship anchored off Gibraltar

BUSTED: police seize cocaine worth €7.4 million

THE Gibraltar Police and anti-drug agency DEA have seized 108 kilos of cocaine hidden in a ship anchored in waters near the Rock.

According to the police, 34 officers boarded ‘Mount Faber,’ a 280 metre long bulk carrier with an 89 tonne capacity, on Tuesday afternoon.

Police suspected that the ship was carrying a drug shipment hidden below the waterline in an external container attached to the outside of the hull.

The container was dismantled and opened on land, where they found 108 kilos of cocaine with a street value of over €7.4 million.

According to the Gibraltar authorities, the captain of the ship, the chief engineer and a member of crew have all been arrested.
