Breezy start to week in prospect with wind alerts in 11 Spanish provinces

THE week is due to begin with dangerously strong winds of up to 100 km/h in 11 Spanish provinces.

A yellow weather alert has been announced in Alicante, Mallorca, Teruel, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Navarre (Basque Country), and this has been upgraded to the more serious orange in Huesca, Girona, Lleida, Tarragon and Castellon.

Temperatures will rise across the country, however, particularly in the interior, according to state meteorological agency AEMET.

It will be cloudy in the north of the country and along the Atlantic coastline, while rain is expected in Galicia, the Basque Country, Navarra and the Pyrenees, and may extend into Castilla y Leon, the Central and Iberian mountain systems and northeastern Andalucia.

Despite the intense winds in some areas, Mediterranean Spain is set to be largely cloudless and sunny.
