BEACHES have been washed away by massive waves due to storms across Costa Blanca over the course of the weekend.

Winds at speeds in excess of 100km/h battered seafront boulevards destroying a wall in El Saler, Valencia, and forcing emergency services to evacuate two families.

According to the Environmental councillor, Pilar Soriano, signs have also been ripped from the ground, water and sand has accumulated in parts of Valencia City forcing the closure of several major roads.

Two electricity pylons were torn down by the storms leaving more than 5,000 people without power in Altea.

The Javea seafront was also left flooded with damage to property.

The storms are expected to dissipate over the next few days but warnings have been issued for strong winds reaching up to 70km/h in the northern regions of Valencia and Alicante.

What a mess just after the cleanups along the Costa Blanca coastlines just prior to Xmas holidays.
