Women are doing it for themselves in Washington DC

Some of those intending to take part

TWO women in America were so affronted by comments that President Elect Donald Trump made about women that they decided to mount a visual demonstration in Washington on January 21 which they have called The PussyHat Project.

The intention is that demonstrators should all wear a pink knitted hat with ears and march to the National Mall in Washington DC which has space for 1.7 million people to register their distaste for disparaging comments about women made by Mr Trump.

As not everybody who wants to march can knit and not everybody who can knit will be able to march, women (and some men) across the USA have been encouraged to send PussyHats to a central point in Washington.

So far more than 100,000 people have indicated that they will turn up on Saturday, the day after Mr Trump takes office.

The name PussyHat has three basic meanings, firstly the ears make it look cat like, secondly it rhymes with pussy cat and thirdly it remembers Mr Trump’s alleged comments about grabbing women by the pussy.

Just a few days earlier on January 17, a woman from campaign group FEMEN stripped off her top in Madrid and disrupted the unveiling of a new waxwork of ‘The Donald’ by then placing her hands between the waxworks legs.
