SOTOGRANDE BEACH: Row over promised regeneration.

STORM clouds are gathering over new problems at the mouth of the Guadiaro river, and the lack of regeneration at the Sotogrande beach.

San Roque mayor, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, has laid the blame squarely at the feet of the regional government, which he accuses of reneging on their promise to properly dredge the riverbed and protect residents from the encroaching Mediterranean tide.

Furious that the situation remains precisely the same after his return from holiday, the mayor said that it was high time he grabbed the reins and demanded action, as the affairs of government could not be directed from a hammock.

Specifically he hopes to ad dress the threat posed to beachside residents by the weak protection they are offered from the tide as winter approaches, with many facing possible flooding if the issue is not resolved.
