ON Thursday September 15, a very special event took place at the Butterfly Children Charity Shop in Marbella as the Obra Social a charitable foundation of La Caixa Bank donated the sum of €24,000 to the ‘Well Being’ appeal of the Butterfly Children Charity to provide health, social and psychological care for Butterfly Skin Families during 2016/17.

Victoria Morales, delegate for social rights of the Marbella council congratulated the charity for all their hard work in promoting the rights of the Butterfly Skin families throughout Spain. In addition she thanked Obra Social “La Caixa” for all the help they have given to them and other associations in Marbella.

Mr Juan Carlos Martin, Director of Caixa Bank’s Department of Business for Costa del Sol said that Obra Social La Caixa is the first foundation to give this volume of support at a national level and with a budget of €500,000,000 that has remained uncut since 2008 he was delighted that they could assist such a worthy charity that had been working so hard for 20 years.

Nieves Montero, President and Founder of the Butterfly Children Charity (DEBRA) thanked the representatives and explained how please the charity is to have the help of the bank. The €24,000 will allow the charity to not only help those suffering from the condition and the families but the professionals who provide the day to day health and social care throughout Spain.

Thanks to projects such as ‘Well Being’ and the work of the Butterfly Children Charity families can live with the condition knowing they are not alone and that their rights are being heard. It is important to remember that Butterfly Skin is a rare disease with no cure and is characterised by extremely fragile skin that breaks with the slightest touch. Activities of daily living such as walking and eating can cause blisters and open wounds that may take months to heal.

In addition to the help from organisations like Obra Social “La Caixa” the Butterfly Children Charity is funded by its charity shops such as the one where the signing took place at Calle Caballeros 9, Marbella Old Town.
