BEACH BAR FUNDS: The councillors receive a cheque on behalf of the bar owners.
COUNCILLORS for beaches and social services in Fuengirola, Jose Sanchez and Francisco Jose Martin, attended a press conference on Wednesday, September 7, to honour the charitable efforts of local beach bars.
A number of chiringuitos together donated €2,700 to the municipal food bank, which provides meals for the less fortunate.
The money raised during the San Juan festivities earlier in the summer, was an idea that came from the bar owners.
“The council decided a few years ago to try something different for San Juan to encourage citizens to move away from the classic ‘huge raves’ and patronise the 29 beach bars we have which offer different performances and shows,” said Sanchez.
Alberto Santos, chief of the beach business owners’ association, handed over the cheque, and said: “Thank you to the council for the facilities they provide, it’s important for tourism, and we’re delighted to collaborate with them.”
