Scene from the Sierra Bernia with helicopter.
A WILDFIRE broke out in the Sierra Bernia in the early afternoon of Tuesday (August 2), although according to the most recent reports, the blaze appears to have been extinguished.
The Sierra Bernia area, which can be seen from Altea la Vella, is a common scene for forest fires due to its dry conditions, which when combined with the scorching heat of the last few days and the occasional human carelessness, can sometimes be a recipe for disaster.
Fortunately, as of 3pm, the screeching of the sirens has reportedly died down and the fire appears to be under control. Euro Weekly News sources witnessed two helicopters and a sky-plane descending on the scene shortly after the fire broke out, where they promptly dumped generous quantities of water onto the fire, providing a hefty dose of relief for the many residents who live in the nearby homes and urbanisations.
