How we all want to deal with airport security
HIS name is now officially Michael Caine. After more than half a century of using his film-industry moniker, the legendary British actor has legally adopted the name after being infuriated by constant complications with airport security.
Not many people know that the Cockney star was born Maurice Micklewhite but the actor, who has hinted at retirement, has dropped his birth name after 83 years, smartly resisting the allure of becoming Mr Terry Wrist or Herr Hans Schubomber.
“An airport security guard would say, ‘Hi, Michael Caine,’ and suddenly I’d give him a passport with a different name on it,” he said. “I could stand there for an hour. So I changed my name.”
There is speculation that, in the days of Daesh and constant threats, security guards were concerned that Caine might blow the bloody doors off.
