First Lady and daughters arrive in Spain

FOLLOWING the announcement of their proposed journey, Michelle Obama and her two daughters Sasha and Malia arrived at the Torrejon de Ardoz military base near to Madrid on June 29 as part of a promotional trip entitled ‘Let Girls Learn’ which has already taken them to Liberia and Morocco in the company of Meryl Streep and Indian actress Freida Pinto.

Despite the very windy weather which saw the President’s family having to keep a firm hold on their skirts as they descended from the aircraft, they kept their composure as they were met by US Ambassador to Spain James Costos.

The family will attend a meeting in Madrid on June 30 where both Mrs Obama and Queen Letizia will deliver speeches on the need for girls around the world to have the opportunity to attend school before having a private meeting.

The First family then return to the US the following day, whilst President Obama will visit Madrid and Seville from July 9 to 11.
