Roadworks are denied

RURAL: The N340 access road has regular accidents.

RESIDENTS of Cajiz have for years been complaining of the dangers of the access to the tiny village from the old N340 road and asking for something to be done about it, to reduce the accidents which happen there on a regular basis.

Although the council approved a motion back in December and put in an official request with the Malaga Provincial Council for work to be done at the junction, it was turned down due to a lack of funds.

Provincial delegate Cristobal Fernandez explained that the council has had €3 million removed from the budget for this type of work, meaning there simply isn’t money available for the work.

However, he said, it is vital to increase safety at the dangerous spot, and the authorities need to modify the budgets to allow for it.

“We’re not going to stop asking for it, rural areas deserve not to be forgotten,” the delegate promised.
