Antonio Banderas interested in city port plot

MALAGA-BORN Hollywood hero Antonio Banderas has registered his interest in the large plot at the end of the city port’s pier number one, where the Port Authority is seeking a flagship project as it continues regeneration of the zone.

The first round of talks has apparently gone well, with the Zorro star wishing to build a large theatre with two auditoriums containing 500 and 200 seats, respectively, a pit for musicians, and a patio with adjustable seating.

Port officials are said to be enamoured by the proposals, with the playhouse set to fill the unused space created by demolition of the ‘Boat House’ and former headquarters of the Red Cross and local boating club.

The site had previously been earmarked for construction of a public aquarium, but investors pulled out during the initial planning stage.
