Mr Fabre receiving the mayor’s Award on January 29, 2016

GIBRALTAR has a record of having many long-lived residents, and centenarians are almost the norm rather than the exception, but reports have been received that one of the best known of the older citizens passed away at Mount Alvernia on the evening of April 29.

Pepe Fabre MBE had celebrated his 100 years earlier in 2016, and was renowned around the Rock as a person who cared for sport, dancing, charity and his fellow Gibraltarians.

Closely connected with the Amateur Swimming Association and then president for life of the Gibraltar Commonwealth Games Association, Mr Fabre was a popular and well-known figure around Gibraltar who was also involved with the Lions, Rotary Club and Royal British Legion where he was also the president.

The funeral of this centenarian will take place on Tuesday May 3 at 2pm in the Cathedral of St Mary the Crowned.
