THE Port Authority has announced that it will host an Open Day on the sail training Tall Ship ‘Jean de la Lune’ Sunday April 24.

The Jean de la Lune, a 33.5m long, 110ft high traditional French Schooner sailing ship built in 1957, was originally used as a fishing vessel but after a full refurbishment is now registered as one of the UK’s Sail Training International (STI) fleet for working or holiday voyages, offering people the experience of sailing on this now converted wooden two-masted Brigantine.

The vessel is currently on a sailing adventure from the Canary Islands to the UK and will call into Gibraltar on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th April as a stopover before heading onto Lisbon and La Coruña.

Whilst the Jean de la Lune is in Gibraltar the Port Authority will be hosting an open day to the public on Sunday April 24 between 11am and 3pm for people to go on board and have a look around for an up-close and personal experience of the sailing ship. The vessel will be alongside the cruise terminal and entrance on board is free for everyone.

The Jean de la Lune is also offering a special deal in Gibraltar for individuals or families to sail on the ship to Lisbon or on further to La Coruña at a discounted rate of only £150 per person per week. Anyone who is interested in this offer should visit JDL’s website www.sailjdl.co.uk or call +44 208 144 1253 for more details of the ship and how to book an exciting opportunity of a lifetime.

Captain of the Port, Commodore Bob Sanguinetti, said: “The Jean de la Lune open day will be a unique opportunity for the public to get an insight into one of these magnificent sail training ships visiting our port and a great day out for all the family.”
