Benidorm benefits as tourists shun hotspots

TOURISTS’ CHOICE: Benidorm is first choice for Brits.

AS predicted, the popularity of Tunisia, Turkey and Egypt as holiday destinations has plummeted as instability soars.

Benidorm is receiving more visitors than ever and 105,000 of the 186,000 UK tourists who visited Spain this winter headed for the Costa Blanca resort.

So far 135,000 holiday packages have been sold to UK clients for this summer, a 35 per cent increase on the same period in 2015.

Bookings already taken for winter 2016-2017 are 62 per cent up on this time last year.

In contrast, Tunisia has seen an 88 per cent reduction in British tourists this winter, with summer bookings 83 per cent down on 2015.

Forty-two per cent fewer Britons are visiting Egypt in the off-season, while summer reservations have fallen by 53 per cent.  Turkey has seen 31 per cent fewer UK tourists this winter and will receive 27 per cent fewer in the summer. a
