Brits riding high in mountain-bike race

Flying the flag: British rider Matthew Jones won his group.

THE annual Bomberos mountain-bike race in Turre attracted record numbers of entries, with riders of various nationalities from across Spain, travelling to take part.

The race is fast becoming one of the most popular in the local calendar with some 700 inscriptions this year.

British rider, 16-year-old Matthew Jones, flew the flag for Britain coming first in his group, the junior category.

Jones is in his second year with the Bicilocura Primaflor team, based in Pulpi. He finished the 40 kilometre race in one hour, 45 minutes and 18 seconds.

Another British rider, Mark Saunder, from Albox, came 14th in the senior group, the top-placed British rider in the category. Bryan White, from Antas smashed his personal best in the race coming in at 25th.
