POLICE in Essex have released the information that an 81-year-old woman identified as Rita King had been shot by another resident also in his 80s at the De La Mer House care home in Naze Park Road, Walton-on-the-Naze, on Monday December 28.

Armed officers were called to the care home at 9am after the shooting, where the woman died at the scene. The man who shot her is said to be her husband and by the time police arrived, a revolver which he is reported to have used for the shooting had been taken from him and locked away.

At this stage it is suggested that the motive for the shooting was because Mrs King was suffering from dementia and he is said to have told carers that “she has had enough”. The police do not have any other suspects although enquiries continue.
