It’s the bee’s knees for Mallorca honey lovers

ORGANIC HONEY: Can at last be enjoyed in Mallorca.

CERTIFIED organic honey can at last be enjoyed in Mallorca thanks to beekeeper Marti Mascaro’s persistence and hard work! For 12 years Marti has been producing honey and started with just three beehives in Petra with around 100,000 bees. Today he has nearly three million bees settled in 74 hives over three organic farms.

“It wasn’t easy to get certification as firstly the land where the bees live has to be certified and to be so, the property has to have a radius of three kilometres. Finding one not using any pesticides or chemicals was hard too,” explained Marti.

“However, I was lucky and managed to find three organic farms, all in different places on the island and that has made the whole process even more interesting.”

The organic farms are to be found at government owned Son Real in Santa Margalida and two private farms – Ses Cabanasses in Petra and Planicia in Banyalbufar. The local council of the Consell Balear has certified Marti’s honey with the official stamp of the organic farming department – CBPAE.
