The Muslim boy arrested for making a clock sues school and city

Ahmed Mohamed.

AHMED MOHAMED, 14, the boy who was arrested for taking a homemade clock to class is seeking $15 million (€14.1 million) from his city and school. He was arrested by police and suspended from his school in Texas because his teacher mistook the clock for a bomb.

His lawyers are asking for $10 million (€9.4 million) from the city of Irving and $5m (€4.7 million) from the Irving Independent School District, saying that Ahmed was ‘publicly mistreated’ and remains scarred.

In addition to the compensation they want an apology, saying that following the arrest, he received threatening emails which caused ‘severe psychological trauma’ and has led to the family leaving the USA and settling in Qatar where he will finish his education.

“Irving Police officials immediately determined that the clock was harmless. The only reason for the overreaction was that the responsible adults involved irrationally assumed that Ahmed was dangerous because of his race, national origin and religion,” the lawyers wrote in a letter to the City of Irving.
