EL EJIDO council has reported that its Municipal Women’s Centre has helped 2,760 women so far this year, 230 of whom were victims of gender violence.
Services provided include legal and psychological support, work orientation, social services and there are programmes to provide shelter and special attention for victims’ children.
The council’s equal opportunities and employment programmes have also helped 110 women find work so far this year, 40 of whom were gender violence victims.
The town is hold various events this month in honour of the International Day Against Violence Towards Women on November 25, with the major event, a march, planned for November 22.
That day the local football team will also be wearing special T-shirts bearing the municipal anti-violence logo for its at-home match.
