Antonio Costa is now thought to become the Portuguese Prime Minister.

ELEVEN days into his second term conservative Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho´s policies have lost a parliament vote which resulted in an automatic end to his government on Tuesday November 10.

Portuguese President, Anibal Cavaco Silva, requested him to stay in power after the result of the October 4 parliamentary election when the centre right coalition came first in but lost its majority to a number of leftist parties.

The moderate Socialist Party allied with the Communist Party and the radical Left Bloc in order to achieve a majority and oust the government´s policies on Tuesday with a vote of 123 to 107.

Socialist leader Antonio Costa is now thought to be in line to be Prime Minister in the next weeks.
