FORMER Spanish ambassador will return the 74 colonial and 49 pre-Columbian pieces of artwork to Ecuador Wednesday October 28.
The 74 pieces that legally came into the Spanish ambassador´s possession at the time are being restored at the Museo de América after 22 years. Madrid police found the 49 pre-Columbian pieces 12 years later during a money laundering and drug trafficking raid.
Currently the artwork is being kept at the Museo de América on condition that they are returned when asked for.
Madrid´s central court ruled in favour of both colonial and pre-Columbian pieces being sent back.
