Runners from all over the world are due in town for the race

THIS Sunday, October 25, the streets of Motril will be flooded with runners coming from all over the world to take part in the 23rd edition of the International City of Motril Half Marathon.

The event, Sports Councillor Jose Manuel Estevez explained, is becoming increasingly popular as runners discover the chance to compete in the idyllic setting. In addition to the draw of the race itself, this year more parallel activities have been planned to enhance the experience for competitors and spectators alike.

Before the start of the race, planned for 10am from Avenida Salobreña, there will be a classic car exhibition and there is also a mini-marathon for children and various athletics related conferences. Part of the registration fees, Councillor Estevez explained, will be donated to the AECC Spanish Association Against Cancer and also to buy a special wheelchair for a local girl in need.

More than 300 local volunteers have signed up to help ensure the day runs smoothly. The sports councillor invited local and visiting runners to sign up for the race, explaining: “It’s one of the most attractive sports events held in our town and a splendid opportunity to get some exercise with friends and the family.”
