Breast cancer awareness in Almuñecar

TWO stands were set up in Almuñecar on Friday (October 16) by the AECC (Spanish Association Against Cancer) to raise awareness in the area in preparation for World Breast Cancer Day (Monday 19).

The stands were placed in Plaza de la Constitucion by the town hall and at the entrance to the market on Paseo Blas Infante. They were staffed from 9am to 1.30pm by volunteers who distributed leaflets and pink ribbons.

More than 63,000 people in Spain are affected by breast cancer every year, the AECC has reported. Forty per cent of them required psychological support, which the association provides free of charge both to patients and their families.

“We want people diagnosed with breast cancer to feel they are not alone and know they can count on our support. We have volunteers who have won the fight against cancer and provide support in hospitals, at centres and in home visits,” the association stated.
