Spanish Archbishop speaks on refugees

THE controversial Archbishop of Valencia, Antonio Cañizares, made a number of significant comments about refugees on the morning of October 14, according to Spanish news agencies.

He is reported to have said: “Is this invasion of refugees full of saints? Where will Europe be in a few years?”

As the most senior Catholic cleric in Eastern Spain, it might have been expected that he would have taken a more generous view of the mounting number of refugees entering Spain, but using a classical analogy, he also said: “Let’s be clear and not let everything through because it might look very good but it is really a Trojan horse for European societies, and especially for Spanish society.”

Back in September the Archbishop gathered headlines by calling on his flock to ‘pray for the unity of Spain’ prior to the Catalan elections.
