VELEZ-MALAGA Council has announced that it is considering building a recycling plant on municipal grounds to reduce costs and improve the collection service.
Currently, waste collection is down to the Provincial Waste Consortium, which collects rubbish for recycling and transports it to Valsequillo, between Antequera and Bobadilla.
Yet the service has serious deficiencies, Municipal Services Councillor Marcelino Mendez-Trelles has complained, and the €1.74 million cost per year is excessive.
Therefore, local Mayor, Antonio Moreno Ferrer and Mendez-Trelles announced, studies are underway to see whether a municipal plant could be built at Fina La Pola and shared with nearby communities.
