Another weekend of refugees rescued from the sea

IN two separate incidents, a total of 187 migrants and refugees were rescued from the Alboran Sea and taken to a port in Almeria during the night of October 3.

A Spanish rescue boat picked up 84 Africans, including two pregnant women and a baby, in one rescue and then 103 more from Morocco all found in barely seaworthy boats off the coast of Granada.

All of the people rescued are now safe and are being looked after by the Red Cross before any decision is made with regards to their future dispersal

As they were being saved, another armada of rubber dinghies full of migrants, mainly Syrian, including an elderly woman in a wheelchair, landed on the Greek island of Lesbos.
