THE Costa Blanca based company Balearia has made available to the Valencian Generalitat a boat with capacity for 1,100 people, to bring Syrian refugees from the Greek island of Lesbos to Valencia.
This journey is expected to take place in the first week of November and is awaiting authorisation from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Consell is also working on the possibility that the boat can leave loaded with humanitarian supplies, working in collaboration with NGOs.
President of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, and the vice-president of the Consell, Monica Oltra, with the President of Balearia, Adolfo Utor, said this was an opportunity for Valencia to be “back in the news for a good thing in the whole of Spain and Europe.”
Puig also thanked the President of Balearia for his “willingness to put the company at the service of humanity.”
Vice-president Oltra also pointed out all health and educational facilities, lodging and foster families were prepared to receive the refugees.
