A CYCLIST in his thirties died in a collision with a 4×4 vehicle on the Llevant toll motorway.
He reportedly cycled across the three lanes heading to Llucmajor but was hit by the vehicle when crossing the middle lane heading towards Palma. He was thrown into the air and landed in the ditch several metres away, dying instantly.
The driver of the vehicle, in his sixties, stopped, and both he and his wife were in a state of shock and had to be taken to hospital. Other drivers stopped and witnesses attempted to resuscitate the victim until an ambulance arrived. Guardia Civil opened an investigation into the accident and the driver was tested for alcohol and drugs. Both were negative. The accident led to long tailbacks.
