AT LEAST 107 people died on Friday (September 11) as a crane fell and crashed into the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
The crane, being used for construction works, collapsed during a heavy rainstorm, injuring another 238 people, at the world’s largest mosque.
Suleiman al Amr, head of the Civil Defence Authority, has reported that everyone injured and the deceased have been taken to hospital but so far details on the victims’ nationalities have not been released.
Meanwhile the UK’s Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond expressed his shock and sadness and said his thoughts were with the families of all affected.
