A 52-YEAR-OLD English woman was arrested by Guardia Civil officers in Órgiva on September 3 and is accused of using the Spanish postal service to send marihuana to England.
The first consignment was stopped at the Granada Central Post Office as long ago as February when security staff suspected that a package found in transit might contain drugs. Authority was obtained in order to allow for the package to be opened and 54gms of marihuana was found.
Although the authorities were able to alert the post office in Órgiva of what had happened, officers found that the return address on the package was false. A second parcel, this time containing 50gms was intercepted in June and investigators commenced enquiries to try to identify the sender.
When officers finally identified the culprit and arrested the woman they found evidence that she had sent three further parcels from the post office in Almuñécar as well as 2,742gms of marihuana and had two cannabis plants in her home.
