A TOTAL of 61,786 babies in Almeria have benefited from the programme launched by the Junta de Andalucia regional government, which provides babies with free medicines.
Since it was kicked off in 2008 to June of 2015, the regional government has spent at least €26.5 million on the project, from which €2.9 has gone to Almeria, according to the regional health department.
It is estimated that Almeria families have saved €972,503 in total. Before this regulation came into force, parents and guardians had to pay a percentage for medicines purchased for children below one year old, mainly antibiotics, vaccines, and vitamins.
