THE emergency services in Almeria are currently dealing with a deluge of patients, a result mainly of the extreme temperatures registered in July and August, with medics stretched to the limit.

This announcement was made by the Equality, Health and Social Policies Delegate, Gracia Fernandez Moya, who said the way the emergency health service operates would soon have to be assessed to find ways of improvement.

The Torrecardenas hospital has seen an increase by 9.4 per cent in the number of emergencies dealt with, while in El Toyo, there have been on average 182 last-minute appointments per day.

“The large amount of patients is not usual at this time of the year,” said Ms Garcia Fernandez.
