Parents arrested for suspected child abuse

THE parents of a four-month-old baby girl have been arrested in Malaga City for suspected abuse detected by doctors at the Materno Infantil children’s hospital.
Doctors raised the alarm on Wednesday, August 12, when the mother of the child took her to the hospital and signs of possible sexual abuse were spotted. Although National Police officers who interviewed the woman initially arrested the child’s father, later discovery of a head injury and various bruises led doctors to suspect the mother could also have been involved in mistreatment of the child.
While both Spanish parents remain in custody, the baby is reported to be accompanied by other family members and hospital sources said she was recovering from an operation and in a stable condition.
