ROTARY: Peter Romain and Chris Sweeney.
A LOCAL Rotarian from Benitachell has welcomed a fellow member from Britain whose internet skills have enabled the association to raise over £400,000 to be used for worthy causes.
Peter Romain had been conversing with fellow Rotarian Chris Sweeney via the internet but when Chris, who was holidaying near Torrevieja, realised Peter was just up the coast, the two arranged to meet up and Chris took up the offer to stay with Peter and his family. Chris has raised a phenomenal sum for Rotary by designing a template for branches to use when setting up their websites. The template is available for a minimal annual subscription but it gives Rotary branches a unified internet presence.
Chris said: “I realised that to allow the template to be used worldwide was of great benefit to Rotary clubs and was even more delighted when it generated funds that could be used for worthy causes.” Peter, who has been a Rotarian for over 11 years, said: “I felt honoured to meet Chris, his generosity is a mark of his humanity.”
Rotary Club has 1.2 million members worldwide and has 90 clubs in Spain. For further information about Rotary Club you can contact them at www.rotarybenissa.es or to apply to use the template for your own club go to www.rotary-site.org.
