‘Fake policeman’ arrested in Motril

A 23-YEAR-OLD man was arrested by National Police after allegedly pretending to be a police officer to steal items from a group of youngsters in Motril.

Authorities were alerted by a witness who reported seeing a man threatening a group of youths, made up of two girls and boy. Upon their arrival, police said they found the man holding a glass bottle on his hand. After noticing the presence of police, the man immediately threw himself to the floor.

The three youngsters reported the 23-year-old man had approached them claiming he was a plain-clothes police officer investigating the theft of several mobile phones and urged them to show him theirs.

Suspecting he was no such thing, they answered they were not carrying their phones, to which the accused allegedly replied by threatening them with a glass beer bottle, saying he would harm them and sexually attack the girls. One of them, frightened by the threats, gave him her purse.

The man was taken into custody and remanded in prison.
